The history of the UPA Language Unit at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta) began with the university's efforts to develop language services (Untirta Language Center) and academic internationalization (Untirta International Service Center). In 2012, Untirta established the International Service Center with the goal of internationalizing the state university by appointing a director, who was later replaced by Dr. Udi Samanhudi, M.Pd, who held the position until 2024.

As the academic and language training needs evolved, in 2014, the rector of Untirta established the Untirta Language Center with the following objectives:

1. English language training (TOEFL, TOEIC, and General English)

2. Indonesian language training for foreign speakers (BIPA)

3. Conducting TOEFL, TOEIC, and General English tests

4. Providing translation and interpretation services

Siti Suharsih, M.Pd became the first Head of the Language Center in 2014. Leadership was then continued by:

1. R. Alpha Amirrachman, S.Pd., M.Phil., Ph.D (2015)

2. Dr. Asep Muhyidin, M.Pd (2016)

3. Dr. H. Masrupi, M.Pd (2020)

According to the latest organizational structure of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University in 2023, the Language Center and the International Service Center were merged into a single unit called the Academic Support Unit (UPA) Language Untirta. This unit has two primary functions: language development and university internationalization. Dr. Udi Samanhudi, M.Pd was appointed as the first Head of UPA Language Untirta through SK Number 1312/UN43/KPT.KP.08.01/2023.

Since then, UPA Language Untirta has continued to serve as a center for language competency development, organizer of training, international tests, and internationalization programs for the academic community, while also bridging Untirta with various educational institutions and international organizations.
