In order to promote the Internationalization at Home agenda, the Language Center and International Affairs Office of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta) is carrying out English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) training.
This training is aimed at improving the English language skills of UNTIRTA lecturers in using English in teaching contexts. Apart from that, this training is intended to prepare lecturers to teach on overseas campuses and in international classes.
As a pioneer in EMI training activities, the Untirta Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), has started activities which were first held in the FEB Dean’s Meeting Room on May 2 and will end in June 2024. Designed in 14 meeting sessions, participants were given lots of exercises to practice the use of English in the context of teaching in class. The training material provided includes the themes of Professional Identity; Dealing with Students; Coping with the Class; Course Planning; Checking and Giving Advice; Understanding Students; Creating Creative Classroom; Giving Presentations and Demonstrations. Apart from that, knowledge of the structure of English and four language skills such as Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing are trained in an integrated manner and presented in interactive learning activities in each session.
The participants responded positively to the implementation of this activity and were enthusiastic in participating in the learning activity. Apart from that, the participants stated that EMI training was really needed by lecturers not only as a ‘professional development’ agenda for lecturers, but also to ensure the participation of faculties, departments and lecturers in the university’s internationalization agenda.
